About
Professor Peter Macreadie leads the Blue Carbon Lab and the Centre for Nature Positive Solutions at RMIT University. His research spans blue and teal carbon, nature-positive accounting and carbon dioxide removal (CDR) through both ecosystem pathways and emerging ocean-based approaches. Pete has led major national and international programs on coastal wetlands, freshwater wetlands, farm-dam methane mitigation, seagrass restoration and ocean alkalinity enhancement. His group works across ecology, biogeochemistry, remote sensing, carbon markets and policy translation, with long-standing collaborations across government, industry and Indigenous organisations.
Research interests
Pete is interested in blue, teal and ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (including OAE and coastal ecosystem restoration). His research interests also include carbon accounting, MRV design, climate-policy integration and biogeochemistry and carbon cycling in marine and freshwater systems. Other topics of research include remote sensing and spatial modelling of ecosystem change, nature-positive solutions and natural capital markets. Finally, Pete’s research is frequently rooted in cross-sector partnerships with government, industry and Indigenous groups.
