The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre in Catalonia, Spain dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and transferring it to improve patient care and quality of life. It is a CERCA centre, supported and supervised by the Government of Catalonia. It is also accredited as a Centre of Excellence by the Carlos III Institute (Government of Spain) and, in this capacity, acts as an umbrella organisation for scientific research on the campus, working closely with other centres located there and sharing core facilities.
The IGTP conducts research in nine major areas: Behavioural Sciences and Substance Abuse; Immunology and Inflammation; Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases; Infectious Diseases; Endocrinology and Metabolic, Bone, and Kidney Diseases; Liver and Digestive Tract Diseases; Neuroscience; Community Health; and Cancer.
Within the area of Community Health research is the Research Group for Innovation, Health Economics, and Digital Transformation (INEDIT), established in early 2022. This group brings together specialists from various fields. Its overarching aim is to conduct applied, cross-disciplinary research with the vision of transforming the healthcare model. This will be achieved by connecting multidisciplinary teams consisting of experts in management, innovation, digital transformation, knowledge transfer, and health economics.
The institute is affiliated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias University Hospital, which belongs to the Catalan Institute of Health and is located on the surrounding biomedical campus, the Can Ruti Campus.
