About
Dr Marta Melé is the Group Leader of the Transcriptomics and Functional Genomics Lab at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). With a PhD in Biomedical Research from Pompeu Fabra University, her research positions include a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University and the Broad Institute. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of transcriptomic regulation, genetic variation and human phenotypic diversity, with an H-index of 27 and over 12,800 citations.
Marta has secured numerous grants, such as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative award, and received the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award. She actively promotes women in computational biology through initiatives like Bioinfo4Women and serves on multiple scientific advisory boards. An accomplished mentor and speaker, her research continues to push the boundaries of genomics and computational biology.

Research interests
Understanding the regulatory mechanisms shaping the human transcriptome across individuals, tissues and cell types with a focus on (1) inter-individual variation in gene expression and splicing, (2) single-cell transcriptomics and genetic regulation, (3) integration of artificial intelligence with transcriptomic and histopathological data, and (4) transcriptional control of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal proteins.
