About
The University of Salamanca (USAL), founded in 1218 and one of the oldest universities in Europe, is today a modern European university boasting a wide range of faculties and research institutes in sciences and arts.
USAL offers a wide range of studies to about 26,000 pre-graduate students every year (with the second-highest international community in Spain), plus about 2,600 post-graduates. In 2011, it was awarded the Campus of International Excellence status due to its excellence in teaching, training, researching activities and academic life. In July 2019 it received the “HR Excellence in Research” award.
USAL currently contracts 2,200 researchers, who are distributed across 57 university departments, 26 faculties and schools, 13 research institutes and 13 research centres of diverse disciplines. In the field of health sciences, USAL has extensive experience and a strong tradition of research with institutes, where the basic, clinical and translational biomedical research activities of USAL take place. The University Hospital of Salamanca and the National Research Council (CSIC) are integrated in its structure.
USAL has participated in several Horizon Europe projects, as well as other European programmes and actions including Erasmus, LIFE, Interreg Europe, ALFA. Across more than 120 projects, USAL has performed numerous roles such as coordinator, contractor, associated contractor, member and host institution.
