About

Dr Meritxell Davins Riu is a vascular surgeon and specialist in digital transformation and health. She is currently the Director of Transformation and Digital Health at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. Additionally, she teaches the eHealth course at Blanquerna – Ramon Llull University’s nursing school and three courses in the Digital Health master’s programme at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

She supervises four PhD theses in this field and annually mentors four final-year nursing projects and ten master’s theses. She completed her PhD, with cum laude distinction in 2015, on Telemedicine and Peripheral Arterial Disease. She is the Principal Investigator of the INEDIT research group (Innovation, Economics, and Digital Transformation) and her research focuses on health literacy, patient empowerment, the digital divide, patient experience, and gender bias.

Meritxell is currently the Principal Investigator of two European projects and is involved in a FIS (Fondo de Investigación en Salud) project. She is also the Principal Investigator or a collaborating researcher in six research projects. She is a member of the steering committee for the Health AI programme of the Government of Catalonia and has participated in multiple national and international digital transformation projects.
